What Is The TikTok Creativity Program?
If you are familiar with TikTok’s Creator Fund, you may know that TikTok continues to roll out new programs and ways for creators to earn money through their content. However, after some negative feedback from creators claiming to have received low compensation, the network rolled out the TikTok Creativity Program, which will actually replace the original Creator Fund.
This TikTok Creativity Program Beta is now set to launch officially in December. What does this mean for creators part of the Creator Fund? How will this program differ?
Let’s dive into it.
What is the TikTok Creativity Program?
After user feedback from TikTok’s Creator Fund and Creator Next programs, the app was able to see where creators need help, thus the TikTok Creativity Program was born.
The Creativity Program is a revenue-sharing program, that rewards high-quality, longer-form content. This is interesting, considering the app has prioritized short-form content thus far.
In order to be part of this program, videos must be original content, longer than one minute. The reasoning behind this is to allow for more monetization options and opportunities. These videos can also include livestreams.
Our ultimate goal is to create the best experience possible on TikTok and provide a robust ecosystem of monetization offerings to creators. Part of our efforts and ongoing commitment to provide requires us to evolve products and apply resources elsewhere to best support creators and explore new offerings.

How to join the TikTok Creativity Program
Although this program was originally launched as invite-only, it will not be available to apply for directly through the app. There are, of course, a few requirements set by the app in order to apply for the TikTok Creativity Program which include:
- Be based in one of the countries where the Creativity Program is available.
- Being at least 18 years old.
- Have a Personal Account. Business Accounts are not eligible.
- Have at least 10,000 followers and at least 100,000 views in the last 30 days.
- Have a reputable account, and comply with the Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
- Post original content, with videos that are at least one minute long.
If you meet these requirements, you can apply for the Creativity Program through the app:
- Log in to your TikTok account and head to your Profile.
- Click on the Menu at the top of the screen.
- Tap the Creator tools option.
- Press on Creativity Program Beta.
If you are eligible, you will have the option to apply for this program.
For those creators that were originally part of the Creator Fund, you can switch to the Creativity Program easily within the app. Inside your Profile, head to the Menu and click on the Creator tools option. Here you will click on the Creator Fund option, which will guide you through instructions to switch to the Creativity Program Beta.
How The TikTok Creativity Program Works
Once accepted into the program, users will be able to access a dashboard to view the status of their video eligibility, revenue updates, and analytics of their content’s performance.
Another key element is that creators must post videos that are longer than a minute to receive compensation through this program. However, TikTok has claimed that creator’s can earn up to 20 times more than offered through the Creator Fund.
Additionally, creators can only monetize content with royalty free music. This is definitely a controversial option, considering many trends and viral videos include copyrighted music. TikTok includes that eligible content must be “original” to the creator, meaning no Duets, Stitches, or sponsored content.
Those part of the Creativity Program will also have access to TikTok’s monetization tools including LIVE subscriptions and TikTok Pulse.
How do creators get rewarded?
Creators are rewarded based on “qualified views” and revenue per 1,000 qualified views (RPM), which stands for “revenue per thousand impressions”, meaning how much a publisher or site earns from a video, every 1,000 times the ad is shown.
When videos are posted, the network will review the content to see if the creator is eligible to collect rewards. If the video doesn’t pass the requirements, the network will notify the creator and rewards will be turned off. There is an option to appeal the video if the creator believes the video follows all guidelines and requirements.
Videos that are approved and eligible for collecting rewards will appear in the creator’s Balance dashboard in the app. Creators will need to complete the payout account setup to add in their preferred payment method.
TikTok Creativity Program Beta vs. Creator Fund
Is there a clear winner? Will this new Creativity Program really triumph and payout creators better than the Creator Fund?
So far, there are still a lot of unknowns about this Creativity Program Beta. Many creators are skeptical about whether TikTok’s claims will reign true. However, since this program is still in the beginning stages, we hope to see more development and improvement in payment processes, so users can continue turning their passion into a career.
