How to Show You’re Open to Work on LinkedIn

17 August 2023

Do you want to increase your chances of finding work on LinkedIn? On the social network for professionals, you have the option to add a frame called ‘Open to Work’ on LinkedIn, to boost your profile and attract those wanting to hire.

This feature lets the LinkedIn community know when a user is on the lookout for a new job. With over 58 million companies listed on LinkedIn, it’s no surprise that this platform is the leader among professional networks.

If this is your case, find out how to set up this feature to show you’re actively looking for work.

How to Enable Open to Work on LinkedIn

If you want to add this frame to your profile, you can do it in three easy steps.

We’ll be with you every step of the way to make sure everything goes well.

1 Open LinkedIn and go to your profile

Log in with your personal profile, since this option doesn’t work for business accounts.

2 Click on ‘Open to…’

This button is under your profile picture and your contact details.

3 Click on ‘Finding a new job’

This is the option to make visible on LinkedIn that you’re open to work. This signals other members of the LinkedIn community, businesses and active users who work as recruiters.

When you click on it, LinkedIn will open a pop-up window where you can edit your preferences for your job hunt.

What information can you add?

✅ The job you want and the opportunities you’re looking for.

Once you start writing, the platform will suggest various related options.

✅ The location of the job you’re looking for.

LinkedIn offers various locations by default, but you can type your desirable location or click the ‘remote work’ box in ‘Finding a new job’.

✅ Start date.

Select ‘immediately’ or ‘flexible,’ biding your time for the right offer.

✅ The type of job you’re looking for.

Full-time, contract, part-time, work experience, or temporary. This is ideal for selecting the type of contract you’re looking for.

Lastly, select who can see your ‘Open to Work’ on LinkedIn badge, this can be anyone on LinkedIn or just recruitment specialists.

4 Click on ‘Add’

Once you’ve edited your preferences, click ‘Save’. If you’ve selected to let any LinkedIn user know, you will be suggested to write a post that lets your community know about your new status.

When you finish, you’ll see that your page is the same as before, but there’ll be a green tag on your LinkedIn profile photo with the hashtag #opentowork

Now businesses and the LinkedIn community know that you are looking for a new job. This is a useful option to let recruiters or any other members know whether you’re currently working or not.

How to remove Open to Work on LinkedIn

If you’ve found work, and you want to remove or turn off the open-to-work frame from your LinkedIn profile, you just have to follow the same steps as before.

At the bottom left of the pop-up window on the screen, you have the ‘Remove from profile’ option. Click on it and LinkedIn will remove it automatically.

How to Show that You’re Seeking Candidates on LinkedIn

In the same way that you can put on your profile that you’re open to work on LinkedIn, you can also put on your profile that you’re searching for candidates to fill a position for your company.

Instead of clicking on ‘Finding a new job’, the only thing you need to do is select ‘Hiring’ in the ‘Open to…’ menu.

On the LinkedIn window, you need to select the business page where you want to publish the job and fill out the following mandatory fields:

✅ The position you need to fill.

✅ Your business location.

✅ The company is the page you selected before, by default.

✅ Employment type: full-time, part-time, etc.

✅ A small description of what you’re looking for, aptitudes and requirements.

Once you’ve completed and saved your changes, LinkedIn will add the ‘Hiring’ frame on your profile.

What Does 3+ Mean on LinkedIn?

The 3+ you see on Linkedin means they are 3rd-degree connections, which means they are connected to your 2nd-degree connections and 2nd-degree connections are connected to your 1st-degree connections. This is a lot like how Facebook shows you your ‘mutual friends’.

Suppose you want to connect with your 3+ followers. In that case, we recommend sending them and personal message on Inmail or locating their email address in their profile and sending a message directly there.

If you’re seeking employment, try turning on the Open to Work on the LinkedIn frame on your profile so that companies will take you into consideration.

Otherwise, if you’re looking to hire new candidates, activate the ‘Hiring’ frame so that LinkedIn members will know and apply to the jobs you are offering.
