Surprise: ‘For you’ feed arrives to Threads

04 August 2023

It seems that Meta has understood the hard part isn’t reaching the top, but staying there. After breaking the record of being the fastest social network to reach 100 million users, Threads has decided to add its first batch of new features. Among these, the one that stands out the most is the “For You” feed in Threads.

Thread had a dream debut, and exceeded 100 million registrations in just the first week. A success that, unfortunately didn’t last more than a few days, causing a stagnation in the use of the app.

According to the American consulting firm, Sensor Tower, there has been a 70% drop in users that have registered and choose to return to the app. A problem that Meta has been quick to counteract by adding new features to encourage users to use the social network.

“For You” Feed on Threads

The company has announced, first of all, the “For You” feed in Threads. A type of feed that TikTok started, and has also been adopted by Twitter, the social network that Threads mimics almost exactly. Thus, the homescreen has been divided into two: the Threads “For You” feed, which includes posts from accounts you follow and from those that the network recommends based on your interests.

Meanwhile, in the “Following” feed you can see content from the accounts that you follow, in chronological order from when they were posted.

Other New Threads Features

However, Meta has not only focused on new features in just the feed, but has also decided to invest in other features that will facilitate the use of Threads.

Among these:

  • Automatic translations on posts to improve the reach of content.
  • The option to filter notifications between new followers.
  • Reposts and quote threads.
  • Inclusion of the “Follow” button next to your followers, to encourage the “follow-back” with your community.

Meta will continue to work on improving Threads features to turn this situation around, so that users continue to engage with the app.
